Paul Popplewell was born in 1977 and raised in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England.
He became a professional Actor aged 16 when he dropped out of college after gaining the lead role of Simon in multi award winning BBC Television Drama ‘Criminal’ for which he won Best Actor at the Golden Chest Film Festival in Sofia Bulgaria and was also nominated Best Actor at The Royal Television Society Awards alongside Pete Postlethwaite and Tom Wilkinson.
At the age of 20 he was playing a leading role with the Royal Shakespeare Company in their production of ‘Bad Weather’, since then he has continued to work in film, television, theatre and radio.
In 2001, Paul played Happy Mondays bassist and founder member Paul Ryder in the Michael Winterbottom film 24 Hour Party People having been a fan of the band since he was a kid. The film was nominated for the Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival in 2002.
He made an appearance in the music video for Oasis's 2005 single 'Lyla'.
He played the character of Bod in feature film Tyrannosaur, written and directed by Paddy Considine which got its U.K release 7 October 2011, U.S release 18 November 2011.
Tyrannosaur premiered at Sundance Film Festival where it picked up 3 Awards. To date the film has won a BAFTA, 3 British Independent Film Awards, 20 International Film Festival Awards, and an International Press Academy Satellite Award.
